Swimming Defeats North Florida, 104-101
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell's swimming team (4-4, 4-1 CCSA) hosted and defeated North Florida by a 104-101 score on Friday afternoon, Nov. 12, at the Johnson Aquatic Center. CU had 10 individual top-three finishes on the afternoon and seven individual victories in the win.
Freshman Kylie Warne led the charge for Campbell and won a pair of events. She won the 200 free (1:57.21) and the 200 fly (2:10.65). Her time in the 200 fly was a season best.
Fellow freshman Cheriesse Campbell continued her outstanding campaign and won both the 500 free (5:13.83) and the 1,000 free (10:42.36). The 1,000 free victory was her third in the event this season.
Senior Ashlyn Stumpf was the third member of Campbell's program to win a pair of events. She won the 50 free (24.80) and 100 free (54.79). Both her times were season-best efforts.
Kaitlyn Burnette won the 200 back (2:16.86). Freshman Charlotte Cornet placed second in the 200 free (1:59.86) and the 200 breast (2:29.08).
Campbell's 'A' 200 medley team of Warne, Emily Michael, Casey Umberger and Virginia Dailey finished second in their event (1:52.50). The time was a season best. The 'B' team of Hannah Nordyke, Cornet, Cameron Gorse, Erin Francis finished third (1:58.00).
CU also did well in the 200 free relay. The 'A' team of Dailey, Burnette, Stumpf and Campbell finished second in a season-best time of 1:41.05. The 'B' team of Marissa Coughlin, Casey Umberger, Spencer Hopper and Maggie Pogue finished third (1:45.54).
UNF's Sara Evans won both the 200 IM (2:13.87) and 200 Breast (2:27.87).
Next, Campbell's swimming program continues the busy weekend and heads to Greenville, N.C. to take on College of Charleston and East Carolina starting at 1 p.m.
