BUIES CREEK, N.C. – For the second week in a row, the Campbell softball team received a weekly honor from College Sports Madness as sophomore center fielder Stephanie Jones (Black Mountain, N.C.) was acknowledged as Big South Player of the Week.
Jones compiled a .583 batting average and 1.083 slugging percentage, while driving in five runs and scoring five times for the Camels. She connected on a home run, triple and double during the Georgia Softball Classic.
The Black Mountain, N.C., native started the weekend against Middle Tennessee with a career-best 4-for-4 performance. Jones scored four times, stole a base and drove in three runs with a double and home run.
In the second meeting with the Blue Raiders, Jones went 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and two RBI.
This is the second time this season that a Campbell player was selected as College Sports Madness Player of the Week with sophomore pitcher Julia Callicutt (Asheboro, N.C.) garnering recognition on Feb. 12.
Campbell is 6-2 on the campaign and heads to Elon on Wednesday with the first pitch slated for 5:30 p.m. The Camels then travel to Woodstock, Ga., for the Kennesaw State Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament this weekend, facing Akron, Bowling Green, Kennesaw State, Troy and Virginia Tech in the three-day event.
