Softball Places Six on the College Sports Madness 2012 Big South All-Conference Teams
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell's softball team (30-29) placed six players, Ericka Nesbitt, Stephanie Jones, Olivia Scarborough, Taylor McGee, Raven Lee and Sarah Forgacs, on the College Sports Madness 2012 Big South All-Conference team, the organization announced.
Nesbitt and Jones both earned spots on the First Team, while Scarborough, McGee, Lee and Forgacs were all selected for the Second Team.
Nesbitt, who earned Second Team All-Conference honors from the Big South Conference earlier this spring, ended her freshman season with a .402 batting average, 72 hits, 42 runs, 79 total bases, 23 stolen bases and .457 on-base percentage. She also led the team with her 23 multiple-hit games. Nesbitt finished second in the conference in hits, batting average, runs and stolen bases. She placed fourth in on-base percentage and tied for fifth in sacrifice bunts (12). She was named the Big South's Player of the Week on March 17.
Jones was also a First Team Big South All-Conference selection and earned Co-Freshman of the Year honors from the league following the regular season. Jones led the team and league in RBIs with 51. Her 51 RBIs make her just the fourth Campbell player to total 50 or more RBIs in a single season. She also hit .368 with 68 hits, 14 doubles, six home runs, a .551 slugging percentage 102 bases and 16 stolen bases. Jones tied for the league lead in doubles, third in total bases, tied for third in hits, fifth in stolen bases and sixth in slugging percentage. She also led the squad with her 16 multiple-RBI games.
Scarborough led the team and ranked tied for ninth in the league in wins with nine. She threw 96.1 innings, fanned 49 batters and limited opponents to a .241 batting average. Her batting average against was good for seventh in the conference. Scarborough went an impressive 7-3 with a 2.42 ERA.
McGee, who also earned First Team All-Conference honors from the league office and was a member of the Big South's All-Academic Team, hit .290 with 11 home runs, 47 hits, 10 doubles, 36 RBIs, 90 total bases, 20 walks and .556 slugging percentage. She placed fourth in the conference in home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage, fifth in total bases and sixth in doubles. McGee was twice named the Big South's Player of the Week this season and also became CU's all-time career leader in home runs with 42.
Lee, a Second Team All-Big South Conference from the league office following the regular season campaign, hit .295 with 44 hits, 10 home runs, 31 RBIs, 80 total bases, 26 walks, a .537 slugging percentage and a .413 on-base percentage. She tied for fifth in the conference in home runs, sixth in walks and RBIs, eighth in on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
Forgacs, a Second Team All-Big South Conference selection, hit .289 with 31 runs, 52 hits, 10 doubles, 19 RBIs, 72 total bases and 13 stolen bases during the season. She tied for sixth in the league in doubles and 10th in stolen bases.
