CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Campbell senior catcher Taylor McGee earned Big South Conference Choice Hotels Player of Week honors this week, the league office announced. This is her first time being honor by the league since Campbell rejoined the conference prior to the 2011-12 academic year.
McGee had a strong week in leading the Camels to a series victory over conference rival Liberty over the weekend. McGee totaled a .462 batting average with six hits, three runs scored, a double, two home runs, three RBIs and 13 total bases. The Charlotte, N.C. native recorded at least a hit in every game of the series and saved her best for the series clinching victory over the Flames (4/28) when she hit a pair of home runs. The home runs were the 39th and 40th of her career to allow her to tie the CU career record for long balls set by Shannon O'Bryan (2000-03). The home runs were two of her three hits and three runs scored in the game. The senior finished the week with a 1.000 slugging percentage and .462 on-base percentage. She also recorded 13 putouts and three assists while catching all 21 innings over the three-game stretch. McGee is currently tied for the team lead with her nine home runs and ranks second on the squad with her 31 RBIs. She is hitting .292 for the campaign with nine doubles and 78 total bases.
McGee is the second Campbell player to take home a weekly award by the Big South this season as freshman shortstop Ericka Nesbitt was named the Big South's Player of the Week on March 19. This is the second time that McGee has achieve a weekly award from a conference office as she was named the Atlantic Sun's Player of the Week during the 2010 season.
Campbell will complete the regular season and play conference rival Presbyterian for three-games from May 4-5. CU starts the weekend series with an 8 p.m. game against the Blue Hose on May 4. The Camels will honor the team's two seniors, Taylor McGee and Christina Melton, prior to the 12 p.m. doubleheader on May 5.
