CHARLESTON, S.C. – Campbell's softball team (21-23, 6-5 Big South) lost the second game of its doubleheader by a 1-0 score against Charleston Southern (24-19, 9-5 Big South) on Friday, April 13, at Buccaneer Field. A sixth inning throwing error led to the only run in the game.

Freshman Julia Callicutt (5-6) was tagged with the loss. She only allowed a single unearned run. She went all six with four strikeouts in the game. The win was earned by Jennifer Giles, (7-8). Giles threw two scoreless relief innings with one hit allowed and two strikeouts.

Charleston Southern scored the game-winning run on a throwing error from the Campbell shortstop in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jessica Brock singled to center field to start the frame. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a strikeout and walk, the ball hit from Melissa Adams was thrown away by the Camels to allow Brock to score the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run.

CU outhit the Buccaneers five to three in the game, but also committed one more error than the home team.

The Camels wasted a no-out bases loaded situation in the third inning as a foul out, strike out and pop out allowed CSU to escape unscathed after sophomore Shaela Churchill's lead-off double, a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt that allowed freshman Kerstine Womack to also reach base and a bunt single from freshman Ericka Nesbitt loaded the bases.

The Camels turned a big double play to end a promising CSU inning in the fifth. Linzy Rother walked with one out. Courtney Konyk was inserted to run and moved to second on Ari Tedesco's bunt single. Callicutt then induced a ground out double play from Womack at third to senior Christina Melton at first  to end the inning.

The Camels wasted another opportunity in the sixth inning as freshman Stephanie Jones led off the inning with a single. She then stole second. Jones was stranded on second as a strikeout and two pop outs ended the inning without her moving from second base.

Campbell completes the series with a single game against Charleston Southern at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.
