BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell's softball team (17-18, 2-2 Big South) fell in the team's series finale to Radford (18-9, 5-1 Big South) by a 3-0 score on Saturday, March 31, at the Eakes Athletic Complex. The Camels won the first game of the series, but dropped the last two to the Highlanders.
Sophomore Olivia Scarborough (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season and allowed three runs in her six innings worked. The Buies Creek, N.C. native allowed five hits and struck out five in defeat. The win was earned by Radford's Jackie Jenkins (8-2). Jenkins allowed just two hits and one walk in throwing the complete game shutout.
The Highlanders struck first with two in the first inning. Nicole Beall walked and came in to score the first run on Vicki Madden's home run.
The Camels record the team's first hit of the game on junior Sarah Forgacs' lead-off single in the first inning. Jenkins then retired 12 straight until the fifth inning when senior Taylor McGee doubled to start the frame. The next three were retired in order to keep the margin at two.
Radford added an insurance run to the lead in the sixth inning on Ryndee Rusch's two-out single to plate Michelle Beall. Michelle Beall reached base as she was hit by a pitch to start the inning.
Campbell's other base runner came on Forgacs' one-out walk in the sixth inning.
Campbell continues play in the Big South Conference with a home doubleheader against Winthrop on April 4 starting at 4 p.m.
