Softball Downed By Bowling Green, 4-0

ROCK HILL, S.C.  – Campbell's softball team (11-13) was again limited offensively in falling to Bowling Green (8-6) by a 4-0 score in the team's second game of the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. on Friday, March 9. CU was limited to one run in the team's two games on the opening day of the tournament.

Freshman Julia Callicutt (3-3) allowed four runs (two earned) in throwing 4.2 innings in the start. She walked four and fanned two. Sophomore Olivia Scaborough made her season debut and threw 2.1 scoreless innings in relief. The win was earned by Paris Imholz (4-2) who blanked the Camels on four hits and struck out seven.

Senior Taylor McGee had two of the team's four hits in the game.

Bowling Green scored a run in the first. Rachel Proebel had a one-out single up the middle. She stole second and took third on the throwing error from the CU catcher off the stolen base. She came in to score the first run on a wild pitch.

CU's defense thwarted a potential Bowling Green run in the top of the fourth inning. Katie Yuho tripled to lead off the inning but she was cut down at the plate on fielder's choice ground out from freshman Kerstine Womack to McGee.

The Camels put two runners on base with only one out in the fourth inning as sophomore Raven Lee and McGee singled. The next two were retired on a fielder's choice and infield foul out to end the threat though.

Bowling Green broke through for three runs in the top of the fifth. Hannah Fulk and Prorbel both drew walks. A double steal moved each runner up a base. Andrea Arney doubled them both in with her shot in the gap. A CU fielding error allowed Arney to race in with the third run of the inning and fourth of the game on the ensuing play.

CU wraps up play in the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational with games against St. John's at 1 p.m. and UNC Wilmington at 5 p.m. on March 10.
