MACON, Ga. - Campbell's softball team (30-24, 11-9 Atlantic Sun) will enter the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament as the fourth seed. The Camels will open the tournament against Mercer (28-22, 10-10 Atlantic Sun) who earned the fifth seed with a sweep of Kennesaw State over the weekend. The tournament begins on May 11th in Spartanburg, S.C, at Cyrill Stadium. The times for the games have still not been announced.
The winner of the Mercer/Campbell matchup will face off against the top seed in the tournament on May 12th. The top seed, which is currently Jacksonville (36-14,14-2 Atlantic Sun), will be potentially determined on Wednesday, May 4th, when JU squares off with North Florida in a doubleheader. A sweep by Jacksonville guarantees them the top seed in the tournament. A split or a sweep by North Florida and the Jacksonville doubleheader against Stetson on May 6th will come into play for the top seed.
The loser of the Mercer/Campbell game will also play on May 12th, but in an elimination game against the loser of the USC Upstate/Kennesaw State, who earned the third and sixth seed in the tournament, respectfully.
Campbell has won the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and made the NCAA Tournament in two of the last three years. This will be the final A-Sun Tournament for the softball program as the athletic program moves back to the Big South Conference over the summer.
The current seeding for the tournament goes as follows
#1 Seed - Jacksonville or Lipscomb
#2 Seed - Lipscomb or Jacksonville
#3 Seed - USC Upstate
#4 Seed - Campbell
#5 Seed - Mercer
#6 Seed - Kennesaw State
