BUIES CREEK, N.C. – A three-match winning streak will be on the line for Campbell as it hosts Winthrop on Saturday at 1 p.m. The contest between the Camels and Eagles will be played at the Nisbet Tennis Center.
The Camels have knocked off preseason-favorite Radford, 4-3, Bethune-Cookman, 4-0, and Kennesaw State, 7-0, over the last three games.
Campbell (6-4) has started matches off with momentum by securing the doubles point in six of nine competitions with the pairings combining for a 12-8 mark. Senior Josep Baro (Barcelona, Spain) and David Clavera (Barelona, Spain) are a perfect 3-0 since being paired together at No. 2 prior the match against the Highlanders.
Coming in at No. 80 in the latest ITA rankings is junior Fernando Guillen (San Louis Potosi, Mexico), who has posted a 6-3 record in the first slot.
Since head coach David Johnson moved sophomore Adrien Rossignon (Arlon, Belgium) up to No. 2 and dropped classmate Steven Billington (Conway, Wales, U.K.) to third, each has posted a 2-0 mark in singles action.
The bottom of the lineup has played well with Clavera going 4-3 at No. 4, Baro notching a 4-2 mark at No. 5 and freshman Rik Van Gerwen (Valkenswaad, Netherlands) holding a 5-3 record in dual-match play.
Winthrop enters the conference schedule with a 4-9 record. Dylan Comerford has a team-high five singles wins for the Eagles.
The duos of Yuta Hirokawa and Peter Nagovnak and Juan Boada and Steven Patrick have each registered 5-3 marks in the doubles composition.
The Camels begin a three-match road trip on Monday at Gardner-Webb. Coastal Carolina and Longwood are also on the docket for Campbell during the stretch.
