Men’s Tennis Takes on UNCG Saturday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell men's tennis continues a three-match road stretch when it takes on UNC Greensboro Saturday at noon.

The Camels are 3-2 on the season, and won their last match at UNC Charlotte, 5-2.

Junior Fernando Guillen (San Louis Potosi, Mexico) took victories against UNC Charlotte as well as knocking off No. 21 Cameron Silvermann of Elon, in a thrilling three set match with a final score of 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 on Jan. 31. Guillen went 2-0 for the season and grabbed the Big South Choice Hotels Player of the Week honor.

In the No. 4 position, freshman Rik Van Gerwen (Valkenswaard, Netherlands) and junior David Clavera (Barcelona, Spain) have also done well, both posting 2-0 for the season.

The doubles teams have been playing well, as Guillen and Clavera took their last match against the 49ers. The No. 3 doubles team, made up of sophomore Steven Billington (Conway, Wales, U.K.) and senior Ordrej Kralik (Herlev, Denmark) also grabbed their match at UNC Charlotte, 8-5.

UNC Greensboro is 1-0 its season, beating Big South-member Coastal Carolina 5-2 at home on Feb.1.

After the match, the Camels finish their road stretch going against UNC Wilmington, Feb. 16. Matches begin at noon. Their next home match will take place Feb. 23 against Radford at 1:00p.m.
