Fernando Guillen Named Big South Player of the Week for Second Time This Season

BUIES CREEK, N.C. ? Sophomore Fernando Guillen has been selected as this week's Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. The San Louis Potosi, Mexico native holds a team best 10-4 singles record and a 7-5 doubles record this season.

Guillen finished 2-0 in singles this past week playing in the number two position. He picked up straight set victories over Depaul's Sven Kasper (7-5, 6-4) and Liberty's Gincarlo Lemmi (6-4, 6-4). He was the only Camel to finish undefeated during these stretch of matches.

In doubles play, Guillen and partner David Clavera finished 2-0 this past week in the number two spot. The duo picked up wins over George Chanturia and Josh Dancu of DePaul (8-6), and Shea Thomas and Tristan Stayt of Liberty (8-4).

Guillen has helped the Camels to a 7-7 overall record and a 2-2 record in Big South Conference play following their 5-2 win over Liberty this past Friday. Guillen also picked up key singles and doubles wins in Campbell?s 4-3 upset of #75 DePaul last Wednesday.  

This is the second career conference player of the week selection for Guillen, and the third for the Camels this season. He was named conference freshman of the year last season following a 16-5 singles record.

Guillen and the rest of the Camels return to the courts tomorrow, March 28, as they take on #39 UNC Wilmington at the Nisbet Tennis Center. Match time is set for 2:00 pm.
