ELON, N.C. – Campbell's doubles team of August Iwdal and Ondrej Kralik won their third doubles title of the fall season this past weekend at the Elon Fall Invitational. David Clavera and Adrien Rossignon were the top performing Camels in singles play by reaching the semifinals of their respective brackets.
Iwdal and Kralik knocked off Old Dominion's Krysztof Muzakewski and Albert Ochagavia in the finals (9-8) to claim the B-1 doubles championship. The duo knocked off Ethan Dunbar and Aaron Wicker in the semifinals (8-4), and John Karle and Danny Heidecker of Coastal Carolina (8-4) in the quarterfinals en route to the title. Iwdal and Kralik improved to 9-1 in the fall season and have now won a doubles title in three straight fall tournaments.
In singles action, Clavera reached the semifinals of the A2 singles bracket. The Barcelona, Spain native knocked off Beck Bond of NC State in the quarterfinals on Saturday (6-2, 6-0) and Ochagavia of ODU in the first round on Friday (7-5, 6-1). Clavera is now 6-4 in singles play this fall.
Freshman Rossignon advanced to the semifinals of the B1 singles bracket. The Belgium native began his tournament Friday by beating Alexey Rumyantsev of North Carolina Wesleyan (6-1, 6-3). Rossignon then defeated Eric Turner of Elon 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 in the quarterfinals.
Clavera and Fernando Guillen pulled off an upset victory in the first round of the A1 doubles bracket over Duke's David Holland and Cale Hammond (9-8). The duo is now 5-5 for the fall season.
Guillen improved to 7-4 for the fall season by defeating Yusuke Kusuda of CCU (6-4, 6-2) in the A1 singles bracket.
Sophomore James Jones earned his first win of the fall season by defeating Javier Waase of Radford (6-2, 6-1) in the B2 singles bracket.
The Camels conclude their fall season next weekend at the ITA Regionals in Chapel Hill, N.C.
