Clavera and Guillen Win Doubles Title at Spartan Invitational

Greensboro, N.C. – David Clavera and Fernando Guillen won the A doubles bracket to highlight Campbell's efforts at the UNC Greensboro Spartan Invitational. Newcomer Adrien Rossignon won his first title as a Camel by defeating fellow teammate Josep Baro in the A2 singles bracket.

Rossignon began his run to the A2 singles championship Friday by defeating Liberty's Giancarlo Lemmi 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Baro won his quarter final match over Ryan Matthews of UNC Asheville 6-4, 6-0. In the semifinals, Rossignon defeated top seeded Zachary Pine of Virginia Tech (6-3, 6-2) whiled Baro topped second seeded Chanon Varapongsittikul of UNCG (6-2, 6-1). This set up the all Camels championship match, which was the first time two Campbell players battled for a fall championship in over two years. Rossignon defeated Baro 6-2, 6-1.
Clavera and Guillen began their tournament run Friday by defeating Alejandro Espitia and Matt Waissen of North Carolina Central (8-5). The duo then topped Adrien Langeard and Tom Rees of UNC Asheville (8-6) in the quarterfinals and Trimpir Kujundzic and Mauricio Antun of Virginia Tech (8-6) in the semifinals. Guillen and Clavera met Siim Tuus and Stan Vaughan of Liberty in the finals of the bracket and won the championship by an 8-4 score.
Garrison Kinney and Onrej Kralik won second place in the B doubles bracket. The duo defeated Gardner Webb's Blake Dunlop and Brenden Dempsey 8-4 in the quarterfinals, while knocking off Will Kent and Jimmy Rouche of North Carolina Central in the semifinals (8-6).

Guillen took home second place in the A1 singles bracket. The Mexico native defeated Liberty's Tuus 6-3, 6-3 in his quarter final match on Friday. Guillen lost his semi finals match to Adrien Langeard of UNC Asheville (4-6, 2-6) but came back to defeat second seeded Orcun Seyrek of UNCG 6-4, 6-3 in the third place match.


Freshman Landon Rogers earned his first victory as a Camel by defeating Alex Appelt of UNC Asheville in the A4 singles first round. The High Point native won by the scores of 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(1).


Campbell continues its fall schedule Friday, Sept. 16 at the UNC Wilmington Invitational.
