Men's Soccer seeks to bounce back Saturday night at Loyola (Md.)

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Coming off its first loss of the season, Campbell returns to action Saturday at Loyola (Md.) in a battle of regionally-ranked opponents.

The Fighting Camels (3-1-1) saw their four-match unbeaten string halted Wednesday in a 3-1 setback against Elon at the Eakes Athletic Complex.  Ranked 9th in this week's NSCAA South Atlantic Region poll, Campbell fell behind 2-0 after 35:13 of play.

J.J. Elder scored his team leading 5th goal of the year late in the opening period, but Ricki Gaez and Mitchell Cardenas both hit the cross bar and Elon tacked on an insurance strike in the second half.

Six of Elder's 10 shots this season have been on target and five have hit the nets.  The sophomore transfer from Appalachian State scored game-winning goals against UNC Wilmington and Hartford and was joined on the UNCW adidas Classic all-tournament team by teammates Jonathan Ray and Classic Offensive MVP Mitchell Cardenas.

A junior from Mexico City, Mexico, Cardenas has produced 5 points on 1 goal and 3 assists through 5 matches.

Loyola (3-1-1) was ranked 6th in this week's North Atlantic Region poll then defeated Towson 2-1 Wednesday in a Baltimore derby.  Stephen Dooley and Gerwyn Jones both scored in the first nine minutes and the Greyhounds won their second-straight outing.

Last year, Campbell and Loyola battled to a scoreless draw in the season opener at Buies Creek as Ryan Amons recorded his first career shutout in goal.  The Camels out-shot the 2009 MAAC champions 22-8, and hit the woodwork twice while holding the visitors to just two shots on target.

The Greyhounds lead the all-time series 2-0-1 including a 1-0 victory in 2008 at Baltimore.

Following Saturday's contest, Campbell returns home to the Eakes Complex on Wed., Sept. 21 for a 7:00 p.m. kick-off against Davidson.
