Campbell grad David Mathis climbs up PGATour FedEx Cup standings after Top-20 finish in Texas

Campbell graduate David Mathis moved up 43 spots on the PGATour money list following an 18th-place finish over the weekend at TPC San Antonio in the Valero Texas Open.

A two-time Nationwide Tour graduate who narrowly retained his TOUR card at the end of the 2011 season, Mathis made just his second cut in a dozen starts this season. His tie for 18th allowed him to jump to No. 164 in the latest FedExCup standings.

The 1997 Campbell grad shot 69-67 in last week's opening 36 holes and finished the event at 1-under 287, good enough for a $78,120 paycheck.

Mathis' jump up the FedEx Cup standings was the second-largest this week after Texas Open winner Ben Curtis leaped from 200 to 28, a gain of 172 places.

The PGATour stops at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, La., this week (Apr. 26-29) for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Last year, Mathis tied for 8th at the event at 10-under-par, 5 strokes behind 2011 champion Bubba Watson (-15).
