BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Heading into the final tournament before the 2012 Big South Conference men's golf championship, Vaita Guillaume of Campbell University has climbed up the national Golfstat statistical rankings.
A senior from Papeete, Tahiti, Guillaume stands 34th in the latest Golfstat Cup listing. His average score of 70.78 strokes per round stands 12th in the country. Guillaume leads the nation in par-4 scoring (3.94) and in putts on greens in regulation (1.706). He stands 10th in the country in putts per round (29.0).
On the year, Guillaume has won three tournaments – the Georgetown Intercollegiate (Oct. 17-18), Kiawah Classic (Oct. 30-Nov. 1) and Bash at the Beach (Mar.11-13) – while producing four other top-20 individual finishes.
He has been Campbell's low individual in its last five outings (including two team victories) heading into the Wofford Coca-Cola Invitational (Apr. 9-10) at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
Guillaume leads all Big South players in stroke average (70.78) through eight events. The Big South Championship will be held Apr. 16-18 at the Patriot GC in Ninety Six, S.C.
