Campbell returns to action Monday at Wolfpack Intercollegiate

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Coming off a victory in the Golfweek Program Challenge, Campbell carries a top-30 national ranking into this week's Wolfpack Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

The Fighting Camels, who set a school 54-hole record at 31-under-par (277-278-278—833) to win by seven strokes last month at True Blue Golf Club in Pawley's Island, are ranked 26th in the latest Golfstat NCAA head-to-head listing.

Campbell will start the same five players who produced the victory at Pawley's Island.

Freshman Andrew Gai finished second at the Golfweek Program Challenge, where he tied the school record (64) in the opening.  His 54-hole total (13-under-par, 64-69-70—203) was just two strokes off the school mark.  He was named Big South Conference Golfer of the Week on Sept. 15.

Gai and fellow frosh Grant Houser have combined for an average score of 69.67 and stand fourth nationally in the latest Golfstat Freshman Impact Ranking.  Houser tied for 25th in his collegiate debut, finishing at two-under-par 214 (69-76-70).

Seniors Mitch Gray and Vaita Guillaume earned top-10 finishes at the Golfweek event.  Gray tied for seventh place at seven-under 209 (71-69-69).  Guillaume tied for 10th place at minus-six 210 (73-68-69).

Sophomore Amanjyot Singh tied for 45th (76-72-73—221) at the Golfweek Program Challenge after recording birdies on three of his final seven holes.

Red-shirt sophomore Harrison Ashworth will also play as an individual at the NC State event.

Last year, Guillaume tied for 11th place at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, shooting even-par 213 (71-70-72) on the par-71, 7358-yard layout.  Campbell finished 12th.

In addition to Campbell and host North Carolina State, the 2011 field includes Boston College, Davidson, East Carolina, Elon, James Madison, Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, Minnesota, Penn State, Richmond, Seton Hall, Texas State, UNC Greensboro and Western Carolina.

Monday's play includes 36 holes with a shotgun start.  Tuesday's final round will begin with tee times.
