Campbell hosts Fayetteville State Monday in men’s basketball exhibition
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell concludes its men's basketball exhibition schedule Monday with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Fayetteville State at Gore Arena. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
Campbell opened its pre-season schedule last Thursday with a 62-60 victory over Wingate. Marvelle Harris' lay-up with 2.4 seconds remaining proved to be the winning margin for the Camels, who shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half.
Junior wing Darren White added 8 points and Harris 7, while freshman point guard chipped in 6 points – all in the second half – plus 3 assists.
Fayetteville State returns four starters from its 2010-11 club that finished 15-14 overall, 8-9 in the Division II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
The Broncos are led by 2011 All-CIAA selection Sidney Evans, who averaged 11.3 points and 7.4 rebounds a year ago, plus CIAA all-rookie team choice Tyrrel Tate, who added 9.9 points per outing. Also back is red-shirt senior Jamel Carpenter, who led the CIAA in scoring (19.8) in 2009-10 before sitting out last season.
Campbell opens its 2011-12 regular season schedule with three-straight home games against Houston Baptist (Nov. 11), East Carolina (Nov. 14) and North Carolina A&T (Nov. 17).
Season and single-game ticket information is available by calling (910) 893-1459 or visiting the Campbell athletics website at GoCamels.com.
