BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Two weeks before its first game of the 2012 football season, Campbell completed its 18th practice session under the newly installed lights at Barker-Lane Stadium/Ed Gore Field.
"We got a lot of worked done tonight and we got better," said CU head coach Dale Steele. "We gave them a long break after a tough scrimmage last night and these guys came back focused."
Beginning with positional drills, the team worked through pass and run situations before coming together for its special teams section.
Throughout the second half of practice, the team competed in full 11-man and 7-on-7 formats, working through the playbook and prepping the young unit for game situations.
Campbell will host its annual Fan Appreciation Day on Saturday, Aug. 18 at Barker-Lane Stadium / Ed Gore Field. Gates will open at 3:30 p.m.
"It's a really important scrimmage because it's the last time that we'll have heavy contact," said Steele. "Even though we'll be practicing in situations, a lot of these guys won't have that game speed sense of urgency that they need to have on Saturday."
Fans will be able to tour the entire facility, including the CU Football Fieldhouse, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Free 2012 schedule posters and cards will be available. Players and coaches will also be available for autographs inside the fieldhouse during this time.
The event will close with a team scrimmage at 6:15 p.m., giving CU football fans their first chance to see the Camels under the new lights at Barker-Lane Stadium / Ed Gore Field. Fans will also get their first look at the Camels' new Under Armour uniforms, which will be unveiled during the festivities.
Campbell finished 2011 at 6-5 overall and 5-3 in PFL play, marking the program's highest win total since restarting the program in 2008. The Camels led the PFL in rushing for the third straight year (210.45 yards per game), placing 11 on all-conference teams.
The Camels will kickoff the 2012 football season on Thursday night, Aug. 30, under the lights at Barker-Lane Stadium against Shorter.
