The Camels also totaled 36 tackles for loss with 19.5 coming from a member of the d-line. Defensive tackle Randel Herring was an All-PFL Second Team selection after leading all defensive linemen on the team in tackles.

Cavallo was promoted to the recruiting coordinator in the spring of 2011 and aided Campbell in signing 27 newcomers prior to the 2011 season.

Before coming to Campbell, Cavallo spent the 2009 season at Purdue as a graduate assistant coach working with the defense.  In 2009 the Boilermakers’ defense ranked ninth in the Big Ten in scoring defense, fourth in pass defense, ninth in turnover margin, seventh in total defense and fourth in sacks. On game days, Cavallo was in the booth and in charge of identifying offensive personnel and determining blocking schemes of the opposing offensive line. Cavallo, besides his game day work, was also involved with recruiting and evaluating potential recruit’s films. He also was responsible for coaching and running individual drills for the defensive ends at practice and ran the offensive scout team against the defense.

Prior to Purdue, the Connecticut native worked for Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, as a player development specialist from July 2008-January 2009. Football-wise, he assisted in video breakdown and scout team preparations, and off the field, he mentored student-athletes while coordinating study table sessions.

From January 2007-July 2008, Cavallo worked as the Director of Football for 100% Performance in Indianapolis where he trained athletes in football skills, speed, strength and agility. From 2007-09, he worked as the defensive line coach for Make Plays Foundation, an organization that runs free camps for underprivileged youths in the Lubbock, Texas area.

Cavallo was a member for the Purdue football team from 2002-06, primarily as a defensive end and special teams performer.  In 41 career games, Cavallo recorded 15 tackles, including a sack, with two pass breakups and one forced fumble.

As a senior at Purdue, Cavallo received the team’s Leonard Wilson Award for unselfishness and dedication after appearing in all 14 games and making 11 tackles. He had a career-high four tackles vs. Minnesota on Sept. 23, 2006, forced a fumble against Iowa on Oct. 7, 2006 and came up with a sack against Northwestern on Oct. 14, 2006. Cavallo was named the team’s game captain on Sept. 30, 2006 vs. Notre Dame and was named special teams’ player of the game twice his final season.

A native of Plainville, Conn., Cavallo earned a bachelor’s degree in law and society with double minors in organizational leadership & supervision and African American studies in May 2006.

He is married to former Purdue softball player and current Campbell assistant softball coach Kristen Cavallo (Schell). The couple resides in Fuquay-Varina with their daughter, Adriana.
