BUIES CREEK, N.C. – No. 25 Campbell committed six errors and ended a six game winning streak, falling to Savannah State 8-1 Wednesday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.
SSU improves to 19-14 with the win, while Campbell falls to 29-6 with its first defeat of April.
The Camels committed a pair of errors in the top of the first, allowing Kevin Herlihy to plate the game's first run. CU then tallied four miscues in the second, bringing around six Tiger runs and giving SSU a 7-0 lead.
Savannah State added another in the seventh on Darien Campbell's RBI base hit, the Tigers' only earned run of the game.
Michael Felton's RBI double in the sixth plated Campbell's only run of the afternoon.
SSU's Campbell and Parker Nix both posted two hits in the win, with Nix adding a pair of RBI. Kevin Herlihy scored two runs for the Tigers. Antonio Scott swiped six bases in the game.
Ethan Glass earned the win, moving to 1-3 on the season after allowing a run on five hits with two punchouts and a walk in 7 1/3. Eric Ricks struck out four and walked one in 1 2/3.
Paul Eyster was charged with the loss, allowing seven runs, none earned, on three hits with two walks and a strikeout in 1 2/3, falling to 1-1. Coley Thompkins fanned three and walked two in 3 1/3, while David Olson surrendered a run on two hits with a walk. Ryan Thompson pitched three frames, striking out six, walking two and allowing one hit.
Campbell hosts new Big South rival Longwood over the weekend, with Friday's 5 p.m. game to be broadcast on ESPN 3. The series will conclude Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
