Baseball routs Hartford 18-3

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell pounded out 18 hits to sink Hartford 18-3 Saturday evening at Jim Perry Stadium.

The Camels move to 4-1 on the season with their third-straight win, while Hartford dips to 0-2 on the season. The four game series will wrap up with a doubleheader tomorrow.

12 Camels recorded hits, 11 scored runs and 11 knocked in RBI in the weather delayed game. Campbell scored four runs in the first and third innings, while plating three in the fourth and seven in the eighth.

Elijah Trail, Nick Ray and Michael DeLucia each posted two hits with three RBI. Trail and Ray added two runs scored each in the win.

Michael Felton, who was one of five to register multiple hits, scored three runs, as did Ben McQuown, who went 1-for-2 with two walks.

Freshman outfielder Jesse Simmons came off the bench to go 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, with Colby Fox, Blake Boyce, Will Albertson and Trevor Lane also notching base hits in relief.

Junior lefty Hector Cedano picked up the win to move to 1-1 on the season, pitching five innings with six hits, a run, two walks and three strikeouts. Jordan Farthing relieved Cedano, working a perfect sixth with two punchouts.

Michael Griffin and Russell Clark tossed the seventh and eighth, while Ryan Koopman pitched a one-hit ninth, striking out two and walking one.

Alex Gouin (0-1) was charged with the loss, going 2 1/3 innings with six runs, eight runs, all earned, a walk and two strikeouts.

Trey Stover, James Alfonzo and Aaron Wilson paced the Hawks with two hits apiece.

Campbell heads to Duke on Wednesday, Feb. 27 for its next outing, taking on the Blue Devils at 3:15 p.m. The Camels will return home on March 1, welcoming Lafayette in a three-game set.
