Baseball travels to #24 Coastal Carolina for Big South series

Campbell (33-12, 9-6 Big South) travels to Conway, S.C. this weekend to take on #24 Coastal Carolina (30-13, 12-3 Big South) in a three-game Big South Conference series. The series will get underway with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Charles Watson Stadium on the CCU campus. A single game on Sunday at 2 p.m. will conclude the important league matchup between two of the top three teams in the league standings.

Coastal is currently ranked 24th in the Collegiate Baseball national rankings and is receiving votes in several other polls. The Chanticleers, currently first place in the Big South standings, have won six consecutive games and hold a 22-7 home record this season. CCU won a road game at Clemson last week before sweeping Liberty in a conference matchup this past weekend.

CCU leads the all-time series with the Fighting Camels 28-13 and the Chanticleers have taken the last four games in the series. The clubs have not met since 2006, when Coastal took three games from CU. Campbell's last win in the series came in an 8-4 win on Feb. 15, 2005.

Matt Sergey improved to 6-0 on the season after picking up the win in the series opener at Lipscomb. The senior right-hander from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. is tied for first in the Big South with 65 strikeouts and third in innings pitched with 73.1 innings under his belt.

Jimmy Brenneman broke the program record for most hit by pitches in a career when he passed Chris Bangi's mark of 52 HBPs this past weekend at Lipscomb. Brenneman was hit by a pitch 31 times last season to lead the nation and set the single season mark at Campbell. He has been hit by a pitch 22 times so far this season.

Campbell will conclude its current ten-game road trip in the Palmetto state on Tuesday, when the Camels travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on the Wofford Terriers.
