Baseball hosts North Carolina A&T, travels to NC Central in mid-week games
BUIES CREEK – Campbell will host the North Carolina A&T Aggies (12-19, 6-6 MEAC) tonight at 6 p.m. at Taylor Field. The Fighting Camels (26-7, 6-3 BSC) won one of three games at Liberty over the weekend to move into a tie for second place in the Big South standings with High Point and Radford.
North Carolina A&T is led by Marquis Riley, who is batting .372 with 27 RBI and 24 runs scored entering Tuesday's contest. Ruben Torrellas is expected to start on the mound for the Aggies and has a 1-3 record and 7.09 ERA in seven starts thus far this season. Campbell faced off against the Aggies back on March 6, leaving War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro with a 7-2 victory.
The Fighting Camels will travel to Durham Athletic Park on Wednesday to take on North Carolina Central (10-24, 6-6 MEAC) at 6 p.m. CU swept a doubleheader on March 2 over the Eagles, winning by scores of 15-2 and 6-1. Luis Diaz leads NCCU with a .363 batting average, 31 runs scored, four home runs and 19 RBI.
Michael Felton continues to lead the entire country in base hits, as the junior infielder has 61 hits coming into this week. Felton is also fifth in the nation with his .459 batting average. Jimmy Brenneman is fifth nationally in runs scored with 22, while Ben McQuown ranks fourth with 12 sacrifice bunts. As a team, the Fighting Camels rank in the top-10 in the country in batting average, scoring, runs, hits, stolen bases, hit by pitches, on base percentage and win/loss percentage.
Campbell will return to conference play this weekend as the club hosts UNC Asheville in a three-game series at Taylor Field.
