After two seasons at Southeast Missouri State, Rick McCarty joins the Campbell baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach.

"I'm very excited and thrilled that Rick and his family have decided to join our program here at Campbell," said CU skipper Greg Goff. "He is one of the top young pitching coaches in the country and brings a history of developing pitchers to our program."

At SEMO, McCarty was responsible for the pitching staff and recruiting. Last season, the Redhawks finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference in team ERA, strikeouts and opposing batting average. Two pitchers were named to All-OVC teams, highlighted by Shae Simmons who was a first team member and Freshman of the Year. Simmons was also selected to multiple Freshman All-American teams under McCarty's tutelage. 

"Rick is not only great coach but an even better person that will have a huge impact on our players lives on and off the field," added Goff. "His energy and passion will be a valuable asset to our baseball program and will make an immediate impact."

McCarty was also responsible for recruiting several key position players in his first recruiting class that helped SEMO finish the regular season with the ninth highest batting average in the country (.349). In addition, Southeast's team batting average went from .316 in 2009 to .349 in 2010 with McCarty's first recruiting class. Most noted in that group were Casey Jones (First Team All-OVC) and Michael Adamson (Second Team All-OVC). Jones tied the school single season record with 66 RBI in his first season in a Redhawk uniform, while Adamson, who also saw some time on the mound, broke the single season hits mark with 92.

SEMO also enjoyed success in the classroom over the last two years. During McCarty's tenure at Southeast the team's GPA was above 3.0 each semester.
 
Prior to Southeast McCarty was at perennial Division II powerhouse Delta State University for five years. In McCarty's five seasons with the Statesmen, the team posted a combined record of 236-65. In 2004, DSU won the school's first National Championship where the team set a school record with 54 wins. During McCarty's tenure at Delta State the team finished among the nation's top-10 in ERA two times. Delta State pitchers also won 10 or more games 11 times in those five seasons.

While at DSU, McCarty had a pitcher named to the All-Gulf South Conference team 19 different times, including two South-Central Region Pitchers of the Year. Five Statesman were also tabbed Division II All-Americans.
 
Six members of the Statesmen pitching staff signed professional contracts during McCarty's tenure, including Brent Leach, who was drafted in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball Draft following the 2005 season, when the Statesmen finished fifth in the Division II World Series with a 52-10 record. McCarty also recruited several standout position players, including Jareck West, who was drafted by the Oakland A's in 2007, Chris Clark, a 2007 Rawlings First Team Gold Glove All-American, and Rickey Noland, 2008 Gulf South Conference Player of the Year, ABCA All-American and St. Louis Cardinals signee.
 
Prior to Delta State, McCarty coached at his alma mater, Murray State University, for one season in which the Thoroughbreds won the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament for the first time in 24 years and participated in the NCAA Regional in Hattiesburg, Miss.
 
A native of Campbellsville, Ky., McCarty is a 2003 graduate of Murray State. He spent two seasons as the closer for the Thoroughbreds baseball program, where he tallied eight saves in 2001, tying a single season MSU record. Prior to Murray State, McCarty played for Jerry Halstead at John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill.
 
McCarty is married to the former Rayna Netherland of Campbellsville, Ky. They have two children, Mya (3), and a son, Myles (3 months).
