Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell dropped its third in a row with a 10-3 defeat to East Carolina on Tuesday night. The Camels fall to 1-3 on the season while ECU picked up its first win to also move to 1-3.
Ryan Chasse started on the hill, but Campbell used nine pitchers on the evening. Ultimately,
Jordan Irizarry was tagged with the loss. Irizarry was one of five Camels to make their debut in Black and Orange, along with fellow pitchers
Peyton Brown, Garrett Kangas and
Trent Adams, and infielder
Jack Ellis.
A sellout crowd was on hand for the game, with an attendance of 1,173, the fifth-highest in program history.
Campbell had plenty of hits in the early going, but struggled to cash in and build a lead. The Camels put a runner on third in each of the first three innings but pushed just one run across on a double steal to score
Zach Neto from third.
Zach Williams was responsible for Campbell's second run with a solo shot to lead off the seventh. Campbell tacked on one more after a pair of singles and a wild pitch plated
Tyler McPeak in the ninth.
ECU broke the game open with a five-run fifth aided by four walks from Campbell pitchers along with three hits. The Pirates added one more in the sixth and two more in both the seventh and eighth innings to push the score to the eventual final of 10-2.
Williams and Neto supplied multi-hit days for the Camels with two apiece. Neto is now batting a team-high .375 this season.
ECU's C.J. Mayhue picked up the win, his first of the season. Pirate shortstop Ryder Giles went 3-5 to pace the ECU offense.
The Camels are back home Friday against No. 22 Maryland. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
