Smith tabbed honorable mention national freshman of the week

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell quarterback Daniel Smith has been named honorable mention National Freshman of the Week by STATS FCS.

Smith, a redshirt freshman, completed 15-of-29 pass attempts with a touchdown and an interception, coming on in relief of CU starter Anthony Robbins in last week's 28-16 loss at Presbyterian. The Leesburg, Va. native also rushed for 102 yards on 18 carries for the visiting Camels.

For the season, Smith has thrown for 292 yards and three touchdowns, completing 20-of-36 attempts. He adds 163 rushing yards, splitting time in two games.

Smith's STATS FCS national honorable mention is the second for a Camel this season. Emmanuel Olenga was also named honorable mention National Defensive Player of the Week after his week one performance.

The Camels head to Stetson on Saturday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. in DeLand, Fla.
