A member of Campbell University's Department of Athletics since 1989, Stan Cole was promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Media Services in 2007. The 46-year-old native of Raleigh, N.C., oversees the publicity of Campbell's 20 NCAA Division I varsity sports and its broadcasting program.
He structures and implements media and public relations services for each of Campbell's varsity programs and oversees a full-time and student staff for entire Media Services Department, which includes media relations, publications, broadcasting and internet services. He also assists in on-campus and local promotions for events, game management, and in the operation of general athletics administration.
Cole is directly responsible for the daily publicity efforts of Campbell's men's soccer, men's basketball, and men's and women's golf teams. He also edits the basketball game program, as well as The Fighting Camel News.
During his 22-year stint at Campbell, Cole has worked in a media relations role at a number of NCAA championships, including the 1990 baseball regional, 1992 men's basketball regional and 1995 women's golf national championship. He served as official scorekeeper at the NCAA Division I men's soccer Final Four from 1992-95 and 1999-2000, and in the same capacity at the 1997 and 1998 women's soccer Final Four.
He also served as South Region Division I men's soccer statistics coordinator from 1990-95.
A 1987 Campbell graduate with a bachelor's degree in mass communication, Cole previously worked as a sportswriter for the New Bern (N.C.) Sun-Journal and also as an editorial assistant for Coman Publishing in Durham, N.C.
He is a member of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA), the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, the United States Basketball Writers Association, the Association for Professional Basketball Research and the Society for American Soccer History. He has served on the NCCSIA Board as president (2006-2008) and secretary.
In addition to his Media Services responsibilities, Cole also is an adjunct professor in the Campbell University Department of Communication Studies, where he regularly teaches a sports reporting class.
Cole is married to the former Claudia Croom of Rocky Point, N.C. The Coles have two children, Catherine (14) and Oliver (10).
A long-time fan of the Atlanta Braves (both Hank and Tommie Aaron played in the first game he attended at old Atlanta Stadium) and Baltimore Colts, Cole is a sports history and music buff, with special interests in baseball and the Carolina Cougars of the American Basketball Association.
