BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Midfielder Olga Ekblom was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team today as announced by the league office.  It is the first time that a Camel has been named to the All-Freshman Team since sophomore Kaili Terry received the honor in 2006.

“We are obviously very pleased to see Olga recognized by the other coaches in the Atlantic Sun,” said head coach Todd Clark.  “We had several players that were mentioned in the conference call and it was a particularly strong year for several teams and their young players, but to have Olga singled out is fantastic.”

Ekblom shined on the field as she was only one of five Campbell players to start in all 18 games this season.  She was part of a recruiting class that earned its highest ranking in school history prior to the season.  The class was ranked No. 22 in the Southeast Region by SoccerBuzz.com and it was the second straight recruiting class that was in the top two in the conference.

“Our recruiting class was highly ranked prior to the year and each of our freshmen made a very strong impact this season, but we are particularly excited for Olga today for this honor,” Clark said.  “She has injected our team not only with tremendous athleticism but also an enthusiasm for the game that is contagious.  We are certain she will continue to provide attacking excitement for three more years.”

Ekblom made an immediate impact on the team this season with her play from the midfield.  She led the team in shots this season (28), led the team in assists (3) and was second on the team in points (5).  Her lone goal of the season was a decisive game-tying goal against USC-Upstate that ignited a 3-1 come from behind victory.
