BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Campbell will head to DeLand, Fla. to face Stetson on Thursday, with tipoff slated for 9 p.m. inside the Edmunds Center. The game will be aired live on CSS as its Atlantic Sun women's basketball Game of the Week.
The Lady Camels held on for a 60-58 win over Lipscomb on Monday night in Buies Creek, sending Campbell to 12-9 on the season and 7-5 in A-Sun play. Campbell's 12 wins is its most since the 2001-02 season, when CU posted a 13-15 record. That year marked the last time Campbell ended the season with a winning conference record as well, recording an 11-9 mark.
Ashley Williamson, a senior center, tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds for her team-high fourth double-double this season, and the eighth of her career. The Colonial Heights, Va. native also grabbed a pair of steals with a block and an assist for good measure.
After a stretch of five games outside of double figures, Williamson has totaled at least 11 points in three of her last four games, including 16 in a win at Lipscomb. Sophomore forward Katelyn Bass has provided a spark off the CU bench, tallying eight points and five rebounds in each of her last two games. Bass is averaging 3.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game this season.
Stetson comes into Thursday's game 5-17 overall and 5-8 in A-Sun play after picking up a 54-51 win at Kennesaw State earlier in the week. Tierra Brown and Ashli Jackson led the way for the Hatters in the win with 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Simone Taylor paced Stetson on the glass with 12 rebounds. Brown is posting 9.6 points per game, while Taylor is chipping in 3.2 an outing.
In the teams' first meeting, Campbell held the Hatters to 27.9 percent shooting in a 61-46 win, the lowest point total allowed by the Lady Camels this season. The win was the 13th in a row for Campbell at home over Stetson, with its last home loss to the Hatters coming in 1996.
Junior guard Courtney Cannon led the Lady Camels with her first double-double in a CU uniform, notching 12 points and 12 boards, while adding four assists in the win. Sophomore guard Amanda O'Neill added a season-best 12, also posting five rebounds, two assists and two steals. O'Neill is the seventh Lady Camel to lead or tie for the team scoring lead in a single game this season.
The Lady Camels will travel to Ft. Myers, Fla. on Saturday, taking on Florida Gulf Coast at 7:30 p.m. inside Alico Arena.
