Game Notes: Campbell at ETSU Game Notes: Campbell at ETSU

BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Riding a three game Atlantic Sun winning streak, Campbell will head to Johnson City, Tenn. on Wednesday to face defending league champion East Tennessee State. Tip is slated for 4:45 p.m. inside the Memorial Center.

The Lady Camels pushed their record to 11-7 on the season and 6-3 in A-Sun play with a sweep of Belmont and Lipscomb last week in Nashville, Tenn., the first time Campbell has won consecutive games on the road since the 2005-06 season, when CU collected victories at North Florida and Mercer.

This Campbell team also recorded double digit wins quicker than any team since the 2000-01 A-Sun Championship season, when the Lady Camels notched their 10th win after game 14. The 2009-10 Lady Camels hit the mark after game 17.

At Belmont, the Lady Camels erased a 13 point second half deficit, taking the lead with under four minutes remaining and holding on for the 74-67 win. Sophomore guard Kate Cloxton exploded for 20 of her career-high 22 points in the second half, nailing 4-of-5 from distance to fuel the Lady Camels, while senior forward Geami Britt notched 17 points. Freshman forward Jazmine Cooper also chipped in 11 points with six rebounds.

Saturday at Lipscomb, Campbell posted a season-high in points, downing the Bisons 88-80 as four Lady Camels reached double figures. Senior center Ashley Williamson led CU with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while junior forward Lauren Yesh tallied 15 points and six boards. Junior guard Courtney Cannon also collected 12 while Cloxton added 10 points to go along with six assists.

For the week, Cloxton averaged 16.0 points and 5.0 assists. The Lady Camels are 7-2 when Cloxton tallied five or more assists and 5-0 when the Winfield, W.Va. native reaches double figure points. Cloxton stands second in the A-Sun, averaging 4.83 assists per game, and with just 13 more dimes, will become the 11th Lady Camel to collect 100 or more in a single season. The last Lady Camel to hit the mark was all-conference performer Janice Washington during the 2000-01 season.

ETSU stands 10-7 on the year and 8-1 in conference play, trailing only Florida Gulf Coast (14-4, 9-1 A-Sun) in the A-Sun by one game in the wins column. The Buccaneers lead the league in scoring at 78.8 points per game, but also allow the most points in the A-Sun at 76.2 a contest. Campbell holds the A-Sun's fourth best offense and defense at 69.2 and 66.5, respectively.

The game will also feature the top two rebounding teams in the A-Sun, which are two of only three teams in the conference with a positive rebounding average (ETSU +3.0, Campbell +1.2).

Leading the Buccaneers is the duo of senior guard TaRonda Wiles and senior forward Siarre Evans, who at 20.0 and 17.7 points per game, rank first and third in the A-Sun in scoring. ETSU also carries sophomore forward Gwen Washington and junior guard Tara Davis, who average 10.2 and 10.0 points per game, rounding out the conference's only team that boasts four double digit scorers. Evans, one of three players in the A-Sun averaging a double-double on the year, also notches 10.7 rebounds per game, good for first in the league.

After the trip to Johnson City, the Lady Camels will return home for another matchup with Belmont on Saturday inside the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center.
