BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Zach Johnson has been named to the Ping! Baseball Preseason All-American list for the 2010 campaign.  Johnson was picked honorable mention at designated hitter.

Coming off his most productive season in a Campbell uniform, the senior from Smithfield registered a .380 batting average during his junior campaign.  The .380 clip kept pace for fourth on the team and ninth best in the Atlantic Sun.   Johnson also knocked 29 doubles which was number one in the NCAA and placed second in the nation in doubles per game behind fellow Fighting Camel Ryan Hamme.  Johnson finished second on the team with 62 RBI’s.

“Zach had a real break-out year for us last year, and we are very proud of him for earning this honor,” Campbell baseball head coach Greg Goff stated.  “That being said, we will be looking for Zach to be a big part of our team and offense again this year.  He is a senior, and we expect our seniors to lead both on and off the field.  He has been such a great influence on our younger players, and we look for him to continue in that role.”

Johnson highlighted an strong 2009 offensive campaign for the Fighting Camels that showcased Ryan Hamme leading the nation in doubles per game as well as Chris Bangi leading the nation in hit by pitch.  Campbell led the conference in many offensive categories including team batting average, as well as having the most individual marks in runs scored and doubles.

Johnson along with three other Atlantic Sun players highlight the list as Florida Gulf Coast’s Chris Sale, ETSU’s Paul Hoilman picked up second team honors and FGCU’s Zach Maxfield earned third team ranks.

The Fighting Camels season opener is slated for February 19th at Taylor Field against UNC Asheville.  First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
