BUIES CREEK, N.C.-After three years as at Southeastern Louisiana with the Lions’ men’s basketball and volleyball squads, Quinton Sawyer has been named Head Athletic Trainer at Campbell University.

“I am very excited to be here at Campbell,” said Sawyer. “This is a great athletic training program; one I think can be one of the best in the state of North Carolina and in the Atlantic Sun conference.”

Prior to joining the Southeastern staff, Sawyer spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at North Carolina working with the Tar Heel men’s junior varsity basketball team along with the UNC swimming and diving teams. He coordinated and performed pre-season screenings, administered treatment, designed rehab protocol and had direct interaction with coaches, physicians, parents and student-athletes concerning athletic training duties.

"We are very happy with Quinton's addition to our staff as Head Athletic Trainer,” said CU Director of Athletics Stan Williamson. “Quinton is a North Carolina native who brings a wealth of education and practical application experiences to the Campbell Athletics Department. We look forward to Quinton's leadership in the area of athletic training.”

Sawyer was also a game day assistant athletic trainer with the Tar Heel varsity men’s basketball team, where he was a part of the 2005 NCAA National Championship run. A 2004 graduate of UNC, Sawyer spent two summers as an intern with the Denver Broncos. With the Broncos, the Camden, N.C. native worked as a certified intern athletic trainer for the organization’s training camp, also traveling with the team for all preseason games.

As a student at UNC, Sawyer worked with football, wrestling, and indoor track. Sawyer earned a Master’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science from UNC in 2006.

During the summers of 2004-07, he was a research assistant with JUMP-ACL (Joint Undertaking to Monitor and Prevent ACL Injury), a collaborative multi-site prospective cohort study of neuromuscular risk factors for Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries. The study is projected to enroll over 5,000 subjects and is based in the U.S. Military, Naval and Air Force academies.

Sawyer has also received several honors throughout his career, presenting his master’s thesis at the National Athletic Trainers’ Association symposium, while also presenting at Boston University’s inaugural symposium for the Boston Marathon.

Other ventures for Sawyer include time spent with Carolina’s summer camps, Meredith College and Cary Academy, as well as teaching assignments at Southeastern Louisiana and UNC.
