SORRENTO, FLA. Zak Drescher finished in a tie for 10th individually and Campbell University placed 13th in the team standings after Saturday’s final round of the NCAA Southeast Regional men’s golf championship at RedTail Golf Club.
A sophomore from Landisville, Pa., Drescher shot an even-par 71 on Saturday, playing the final 12 holes two-under and finished the event at six-under-par 207 (70-66-71). He ended the event just three strokes away from qualifying for the NCAA Championship.
Host Central Florida won the event at 34-under-par 818 following a final-round 273. Top-ranked Georgia, Arizona and South Carolina each finished 11 strokes back at 829. Iowa secured the fifth and final berth in the NCAA Championship by placing fifth at 837 strokes, six better than sixth-place Georgia State (843).
Atlantic Sun Conference champion Campbell shot 288 on Saturday and finished the event at 10-over-par 862 strokes, 26 ahead of 14th-place Loyola (Md.).
Corey Nagy of Charlotte secured the individual berth from the Southeast Regional by placing fourth at 204 strokes (65-70-69). The top five schools and low individual not among those qualifying teams will play in the NCAA National Championship, May 27-30 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
Tarquin MacManus of Arizona led the event from start to finish and completed the 54-hole event at 15-under-par 198 after a two-under 69 on Saturday. Brad Schneider of UCF shot an eight-under 63 on Saturday and finished second, two strokes back.
Blayne Barber of UCF carded a nine-under-par 62 and moved up to third place (202). Nagy (204) was fourth, followed by Spencer Fulford of Georgia Southern (70-69-66205).
Campbell freshman Vaita Guillaume had five birdies on Saturday and shot a one-under-par 70 to conclude the event at three-over 216 and tie for 47th place. Sophomore Matt Moot (75) and Mitch Gray (72) tied for 64th at 221 strokes, while Isak Pettersen was 75th at 237.
