BUIES CREEK, N.C.-Campbell junior pitcher Brittany Stanley was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Southeast All-Region First Team as a pitcher/utility player by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday, May 14.
This is the fourth end of the year award that West Lafayette native has garnered. Stanley was named the Atlantic Sun’s Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Conference prior to the A-Sun’s Conference Tournament. The senior then followed it up with her second consecutive conference tournament MVP award after she went 4-0 with a 1.35 ERA in Campbell’s run through the Atlantic Sun Tournament.
On the season the junior is 19-4 with a 1.65 ERA, 12 complete games, eight shutouts in 152.1 innings from the circle. Stanley has won 17 of her last 20 decisions. During the course of the season she moved into second all-time at Campbell in career victories and has now totaled 56 career victories.
As a hitter she has also stood out with a .284 batting average, six home runs, 25 RBIs and two-game winning hits.
Stanley is the sixth Camel in program history to be recognized by regionally by the NFCA, and the second in as many seasons as Courtney Quinn took home second team honors a season ago. Other Campbell players that have been honored by the NFCA include Holly Harris (2005), Shannon O’Bryan (2001, ’02), Martha Covington (1996, ‘98, ‘99) and Denelle Hicks (1996).
A total of 264 players from 121 different institutions comprise the 10 regional teams. A change this year is the announcement of just one team per region (First Team), although the team has the same number of members of the previous year’s first and second teams combined.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from the region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
The NFCA Division I All-American teams will be announced at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 27.
Stanley and the Camels will face No. 15 North Carolina on Thursday in NCAA Softball Regional action, taking on the Bulldogs in a 3:30 p.m. contest at Williams Field in Chapel Hill, N.C.
