CHARLESTON, S.C. – Campbell won a one-hole playoff and claimed team honors Tuesday after the final round of the Charleston Southern Spring Kick-Off at Coosaw Creek Golf Club.

Three Fighting Camels finished among the top 17 individuals, including freshman Vaita Guillaume, who tied for fifth.  The tournament win was Campbell’s first of the 2008-09 campaign.  CU finished as runner-up at both the Old Dominion Seascape and William & Mary First Market Bank tournaments.

Campbell (290-295-307—892) and the College of Charleston (285-309-298—892) both finished the 54-hole event at 892 strokes, 10 better than third-place Bethune-Cookman, before the Camels won on the first extra hole.

Bethune-Cookman teammates Daniel Venema (71-70-72—213) and Andy Heesom (67-77-73—217) finished one-two in the individual standings.  Guillaume produced his third top-10 finish in the last four outings by carding a 77 on Tuesday and tying for fifth place.

Camel sophomore Matt Moot earned his first top-10 showing of the season.  His final-round 75 lifted the Johnstown, Pa., native into a tie for 10th place at 225 strokes (77-73-75).  Sophomore Zak Drescher tied for 17th place (73-73-82—228), while senior Isak Pettersen tied for 24th (73-76-81—230).

Freshman Mitch Gray provided the team’s low round of the day – a three-over 74 – and finished in a tie for 30th place (75-83-74—229).

Only two players – Tim Tang of the College of Charleston and Matt Motes of Armstrong Atlantic – broke par (both with 70s) during a windy final round at the par-71, 6607-yard Coosaw Creek layout.

Campbell returns to action Apr. 20-22 in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at Keith Hills No. 1.
