BUIES CREEK, N.C. -Campbell University redshirt junior defensive lineman Charles Fiore and redshirt junior tight end Mike Stryffeler have both been named to the ESPN The Magazine/Academic All-District 3 Football University Division first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced this morning.

He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has served as the team's representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) in each of his four years on campus, while also making the Dean's List three times. On the gridiron this season, Fiore has amassed a total of 21 tackles, including a 5.5 tackles for loss on the year. He had a career-best five tackles including a tackle for loss against Birmingham-Southern on Sept. 12.

Fiore also was a CoSIDA First-Team District 3 selection last season. In 2008, the religion major also earned academic recognition with a First-Team Academic selection by the Pioneer Football League. Fiore is expected to graduate during the winter of 2009 and begin attending seminary school next spring. With his expected graduation he will become the first Campbell football player to receive his diploma since the program was revived.

Stryffeler earned his first all-district selection as a tight end after posting a cumulative 3.74 grade-point average in exercise and sports science through his collegiate career. This season the Sanford, N.C. native has played in all eight games and is second on the team with 19 catches and 234 yards. Stryffeler is 20th in the Pioneer Football League in receptions per game (2.38) and 22nd in receiving yards a contest (29.25). He had three catches for 70 yards against Old Dominion on Oct. 17. As a redshirt sophomore, the converted quarterback played in 10 games with eight receptions for 59 yards. Stryffeler was also named to the PFL's Academic Honor Roll last season.

Fiore and Stryffeler are two of the 24 Pioneer Football League players to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors this season. Marist College tallied five on the first team for All-District 1 (Ray Fiumefreddo, Greg Whipple, John Van Aman, Timothy Moller and Terrence Turner). Dayton had five on the District 4 First Team (Matt Smyth, Ben Welsh, Sean Heenan, Brandon Wingeier and Kalen Hemmelgarn) and three on the second team (Tyler Schultz, Scott Horcher and Joe Ries) for a total of eight student-athletes. Butler was represented by three players on the first team in District 5 (Mark Giacomantonio, Spencer Summerville and Grant Hunter). Valparaiso (Adam Rundh - District 5) and Drake (Sean Kitts - District 7) also had representation on first teams. Drake also placed a pair on the second team in Spencer Cady and Tyler Moorehead. In District 3, Campbell's Fiore and Stryffeler were joined by two from Davidson (Peter Kidwell and Aaron Saltzman) on the first team.

Fiore, Stryffeler and the rest of the first-team all-district selections will now be eligible for the Academic All-America team, which will be announced Nov. 23.
