FT. MYERS, FLA.-Allyson Goldbach and Emily Werner both ended the match with double-digit points, but Florida Gulf Coast registered the 3-1 win (20-25, 16-25, 25-21, 16-25) over Campbell in Atlantic Sun volleyball action Saturday night inside Alico Arena.
The Camels fall to 16-11 overall and 9-7 in A-Sun play, while FGCU improved to 14-10 on the year and 13-4 in conference matches. The Eagles clinched a spot in the A-Sun Tournament with the win.
Goldbach led the Camels with nine kills on 30 swings, adding eight digs and a pair of aces. Werner, meanwhile, posted eight scores, nine digs, two blocks and one ace. Senior middle Ashley Weers and freshman outside hitter Jordan Reaves each tallied seven kills for CU, while combining for seven blocks. Reaves, a native of Holly Springs, N.C., also registered six digs.
Sophomore setter Hope Leatigaga notched a double-double, registering 31 assists and 14 digs. Senior defensive specialist Sarah Hill led the Camels with 15 digs and an ace. Junior middle blocker Caitlin Bendy collected four kills along with four blocks and two digs.
Junior Jelena Simic recorded a match-high 16 kills for the Eagles, while sophomore Anna Wagner and junior Emma Racila both ended the contest with 15 scores. Simic added 14 digs, two blocks and a pair of aces, while Wagner and Racila tacked on eight and four, respectively.
Junior middle Jacqueline Cowden and senior setter Chandra Lefever combined for 10 kills in the win. Lefever added 49 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore libero Holly Youngquist tallied 20 digs for the Eagles.
The Camels will return home next weekend for their final series in Buies Creek, hosting North Florida and Jacksonville.
